"Also impressed with the range of HD options available to him was Michael Boddy, a multimedia designer with MGM Grand (Detroit). Boddy worked with footage company Thought Equity to produce a stunning amount of promo pieces designed to play throughout the casino itself. Stock footage became a necessity because the promos needed to be completed while a series of nightclubs and restaurants were still under construction.

Boddy used HD, he says, because the casino was eager to show off its 720p projection capabilities. He says Thought Equity not only offered access to a high volume of 720p footage, but also gave him access to high-definition comps to show clients as he worked. “They can see what it’s going to look like without having to look at a bunch of low-res comps,” says Boddy.

Showing clients the goods was especially important given the casino’s thirst for video footage and its tight timeline. Boddy says he created roughly two, 30-second spots a week leading up to the Oct. 2 opening. But although he relied almost exclusively on stock, Boddy says he steered clear of “cheesy” Las Vegas-style footage, instead opting for sleek and sophisticated clips"
